Moroccan Smoothies and Refreshing Drinks - Part 3
Moroccan smoothies and refreshing drinks:
Part 3
Popular Moroccan smoothies and milkshakes for Ramadan - with recipe
About Moroccan Smoothies and milkshakes
Moroccan milkshakes are generally
done with raw milk, nuts and with dried fruits. If you want to achieve a milder
flavor you can simply stir the milk with some sugar and a handful or dried
fruits per cup and leave them in the fridge for a night, if you want to achieve
a more characteristic flavor then use a blender to make it into a proper
milkshake and the more dried fruit you prepare them with the denser your
milkshake will get.
In this piece I’d like to tell
you a little bit more in detail on the most popular summer and Ramadan juices
and smoothies which you can easily make at home too. I will do my best to
include recipes as well, so that you all can try making them at home. I do my
best to include everything that I had the chance to try, while there will be
some traditional drinks which I did not yet get to taste myself yet. Therefore
this blog serves me well too, as I will surely make these happen at home!
Moroccan avocado smoothie
v 1 l milk
v 2 pieces of avocado,
peeled and pitted
v 3 tablespoons sugar or
honey
|
Avocado milkshake is extremely
popular during Ramadan season for this fruit’s extra nutritious and healthy
qualities. You can make it only with avocados, while you can also put and blend
it with dried fruits, with figs, raisins, dates (seedless ones) and dried
apricots being the most popular choices. If you are using dried fruits I would
highly suggest you to leave them soak in hand-warm water for them to be easier
to work with.
Moroccan Strawberry Smoothie
v 1 1/2 lbs / 24 oz (about 700 g) fresh strawberries
v 14 oz. (397 g) sweetened condensed milk
v 1 to 2 cups (236 to 475 ml) cold water
|
Many people don’t know about this, as this is a
fact less talked about but Morocco is one of the largest exporters of
strawberries. Which means, that during the summertime in Morocco people have
access to great quality strawberries.
Therefore, this is a very popular smoothie which
takes about 10 minutes to prepare.
Preparation:
First wash the strawberries thoroughly then
drain the water off them and put them in the fridge or freezer for a few
minutes if they are not cold enough. Then put them in the blender along with
the condensed milk (this will give it a very nice creamy texture, not to
mention the taste!) adjust the quantity and the density with the help of adding
the water. You can also add sugar or honey and a few drops of lemon juice to
make it fresher. Put it in the fridge and serve it from there.
Moroccan
Apple and Banana Smoothie
v 2 cups (about 1/2 liter)
cold milk
v 1 medium apple, peeled,
cored and chopped
v 1 medium banana, peeled and
broken into several pieces
v 2 tablespoons sugar, or to
taste
|
This is a widely prepared
smoothie in Morocco during the summer – and especially the Ramadan period as
both fruits have excellent qualities in terms of vitamin and mineral-content.
Plus they make up for an excellent smoothie too!
Preparation:
All you need to do is to put the
apple with the banana in the blender first, then blend it with the milk until
it becomes creamy. As a tip, do this with a few drops of lemon, otherwise the
apple will make the whole liquid dark in a matter of only a few minutes.
I hope you liked these recipes
and furthermore I hope you will also try them out! Finding a great deal of
refreshing and nutritious drinks and smoothies is not only important for those
who celebrate Ramadan, it’s vital for everyone. So, go ahead and make one or
more of these tasty smoothies at home.
As I’ve come to the end of these
3 part blog I’d like to send my special thanks to Christine Benlafquih whose
blog gives me tons of ideas and inspirations. Please check out her blog here.
